Sedation Dentistry to Relieve Dental Anxiety

Oral Sedation
If you suffer from dental anxiety, our Toronto dental team may recommend oral sedation. These anti-anxiety pills tone down activity in the parts of your brain that cause you to feel anxious or afraid. Remember, if you take oral sedation, you cannot drive before or after your appointment. Bring a friend or family member with you to make sure you arrive and get back home safely following your appointment.
Certain medications or health conditions may prevent you from taking oral sedation. We will carefully assess your medical and healthy history prior to administering any medication.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Unfortunately, dental anxiety can keep many patients from visiting the dentist for checkups and much-needed dental work. If dental appointments make you anxious, Drs. Reyes and associates can administer nitrous oxide (commonly known as “laughing gas”) to help you feel more at ease during your visit.
At North Shores Dental, laughing gas is administered using a mask, allowing you to feel more at ease within minutes. If you are feeling anxious about an upcoming visit, ask about nitrous oxide. When monitored carefully at the appropriate levels, it is extremely safe. Most of our patients are good candidates for this treatment, but we need to know if you have any allergies or sensitivities to eggs.
IV Sedation
When administered by a professional anesthesiologist at appropriate levels, IV Sedation Dentistry has been statistically shown to be safe for use. At North Shores Dental, we work closely with a registered dental anesthesiologist to ensure you get the level of sedation that you need. IV Sedation Dentistry allows our dentists to complete complex dental procedures in just one or two appointments. You will need a trusted friend or relative to take you home after the procedure, as the effects do not wear off automatically. You should anticipate resting the rest of the day. IV sedation is not available to our pediatric patients.
